PVC CANVAS APPLICATIONS

PVC-coated canvas is widely used for canvas covers, bags, tote bags, sheets and awnings. The tent examples show how coated fabric is converted into roof and sidewall panels for marquees and temporary structures. Coated canvas also finds industrial uses in filters and tarpaulins, as well as protective clothing and upholstery for outdoor furnishings.
For tent and cover production, compare the required panel dimensions with the roll width and identify where seams, edge reinforcement, doors and windows will be positioned. Include the required opacity and surface finish when specifying an additional blockout layer.
PVC MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
PVC fibres offer high chemical and water resistance and do not burn readily. They recover completely from deformation at low elongation, are soft, and recover well after bending. PVC is highly hydrophobic, with a moisture regain of 0.0%–0.1% under standard conditions.
PVC is a poor conductor of heat and electricity, giving it potential in insulation applications. It is attacked only slowly by sunlight UV compared with other materials, and PVC fibres melt with decomposition at 135°C–180°C.
Coated canvas tarpaulins are unaffected by moisture, chemically stable, resistant to moths and biological attack, and poor electrical conductors. Beyond canvas applications, PVC is used in bonding agents for nonwoven products because of its chemical resistance. Other uses include flame-retardant Christmas trees, filter pads, fishing lines and nets, and protective clothing.
